Mad Cat Theatre Company
Charming Acts of Misery
Written by Jessica Farr

DON’T MISS THIS NEW COMEDY!
Mad Cat Theatre Company is back and yes, the third time is the “charm”, after such previous hits as “Shepherd’s Pie” at the festival in 2010 and “The Preservation Society” at the festival in 2011.
This time Mad Cat company member, Jessica Farr has written a new play “Charming Acts of Misery” that follows the ups and downs of fashion muse Isabella Blow (1958-2007) known to most for her brazen individual style and for discovering Alexander McQueen. As an English magazine editor, Isabella had a pension for pushing the bounds of convention not only in the fashion world, but in her own life. She suffered from depression which led her to seven suicide attempts, one of which was finally successful. She is remembered as a woman of many shades and hats, both tragic and trailblazing.
With this fabulously fashionable figure of endless creativity under the microscope, our heroine pieces together moments of a life in a narrative that can only be summed up as a lifetime lived in full regalia.
Spanning several decades, this whirligig ride into Isabella’s life traverses both the fashion scene and the underpinnings of its central character’s psyche. We follow “Issi” through the jungles of Sri Lanka, New York City and London until the lines between her public and private life become intensely blurred. Get ready South Beach and put a hat on it!
“I don’t bite models. I’ve already had my lunch.” — Isabella Blow
